{"id":372,"date":"2011-12-18T21:51:10","date_gmt":"2011-12-18T21:51:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iowamercuryfreedentistry.com\/?page_id=372"},"modified":"2021-10-03T22:26:16","modified_gmt":"2021-10-03T22:26:16","slug":"snoringsleep-disturbanceocb-treatment","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/iowamercuryfreedentistry.com\/?page_id=372","title":{"rendered":"Snoring\/Sleep Devices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>How do you diagnose a sleep disturbance issue?<\/strong><br \/>\nDentists are qualified to diagnose oral pharyngeal airway obstructions.\u00a0 These obstructions can contribute to sleep disturbance, sleep apnea, obstructive sleep apnea, or day apnea.\u00a0 However, in order to\u00a0<strong>diagnose a sleep disturbance<\/strong>, sleep apnea or even day apnea, a person must have their doctor prescribe a sleep study be performed.\u00a0 Then either the doctor in charge of the sleep study program or the person\u2019s doctor will evaluate the results from the sleep study and determine if the patient is suffering from any form of sleep disturbance.\u00a0 Once a positive diagnosis has been made, the patient may request a referral for dental \/ oral therapies treating sleep disturbance.<\/p>\n<p>In order for us to diagnose an airway obstruction issue we need specific diagnostic records along with a detail specific health history.\u00a0 The records may include but are not limited to the following:<\/p>\n<table border=\"0\" width=\"100%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/iowamercuryfreedentistry.com\/images\/spacer.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"20\" height=\"4\" \/><\/td>\n<td width=\"100%\"><em>Cephalometric x-ray:<\/em>\u00a0 This type of X-ray shows a side view of the head and neck, it is useful for examining the teeth in relation to the jaw and profile of the individual.<br \/>\n<em>Study models\/casts<\/em>:\u00a0 These are impressions of the upper and lower teeth, they are used to evaluate the start position of teeth and are used to create appliances.<br \/>\n<em>Diagnostic Photos<\/em>:\u00a0 These photos help us to analyze facial imbalances, postural issues, and record the initial position of teeth.<br \/>\n<em>Jaw record<\/em>:\u00a0 This is a wax impression of how the upper and lower teeth fit together.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><a id=\"e44\" name=\"vv\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the cost for treatment?<\/strong><br \/>\nThis will depend on the results of the diagnostic records, what treatment is recommended, and what you as the patient choose.<br \/>\n<a id=\"e45\" name=\"ww\"><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Will I have to wear an appliance for the rest of my life?<\/strong><br \/>\nThis will depend on the results of the diagnostic records, what is recommended and what you as the patient choose.\u00a0 Remember, wearing an appliance is a small price to pay if the result is a higher quality of life.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"e46\" name=\"xx\"><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How do you diagnose a sleep disturbance issue?
